We start our meetings with a hymn and prayer, then we have a speaker who usually keeps us interested in their particular subject and they often over run the allotted time as our members are often reluctant to let them end.
We have a short business discussion to decide where we want the money which we raise to go. We raise about £300 each year which we can donate to any charity with in the Mothers’ Union.
After that we have tea with cakes and biscuits to finish with.
Every quarter we send large amounts of knitted babywear and blankets to the special baby care unit at Kettering Hospital, so that all babies can have their own, sadly some are wrapped in their blankets for burial, or their bereaved mums have them as comfort blankets.
We also send hat, gloves and blankets to the many soup kitchens around the county or the Daylight Centre in Wellingborough, which is also funded by the Mothers’ Union.
Everyone is welcome to join us either as a visitor, or as a member. Recruiting more people to join the Mothers’ Union is this years aim. Help us to achieve it. There are 3 ½ million members worldwide. Let 2005 be the year we make it 4 million members. |
