Sunday 23rd November
MEETING POINT 23.11.2025 CHRIST THE KING
00:00 / 18:37

Father Paul welcomes us to this service for Christ the King Sunday

HYMN

Crown him with many crowns,

the Lamb upon his throne;

hark, how the heavenly anthem drowns

all music but its own!

Awake, my soul, and sing

of him who died for thee,

and hail him as thy matchless King

through all eternity.

Crown him the Lord of life,

Who triumphed o’er the grave

And rose victorious in the strife

For those he came to save
His glories now we sing

Who died and rose on high

Who died eternal life to bring

And lived that death may die

Crown him the Lord of peace,

whose power a sceptre sways

from pole to pole, that wars may cease,

and all be prayer and praise:

his reign shall know no end,

and round his pierced feet

fair flowers of paradise extend

their fragrance ever sweet.

Crown him the Lord of love;

behold his hands and side,

those wounds yet visible above

in beauty glorified:

all hail, Redeemer, hail!

for thou hast died for me;

thy praise shall never, never fail

throughout eternity.

A reading from Luke’s Gospel

When they came to the place that is called The Skull, they crucified Jesus there with the criminals, one on his right and one on his left.  Then Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.’ And they cast lots to divide his clothing.

And the people stood by, watching; but the leaders scoffed at him, saying, ‘He saved others; let him save himself if he is the Messiah of God, his chosen one!’    The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him sour wine, and saying, ‘If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!’ There was also an inscription over him, ‘This is the King of the Jews.’

    One of the criminals who were hanged there kept deriding him and saying, ‘Are you not the Messiah? Save yourself and us!’ But the other rebuked him, saying, ‘Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? And we indeed have been condemned justly, for we are getting what we deserve for our deeds, but this man has done nothing wrong.’ Then he said, ‘Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.’ He replied, ‘Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise.’                                                                                                                                           Luke 23: 33 – 43

   HYMN

   In Christ alone my hope is found,
   he is my light, my strength, my song;
   this cornerstone, this solid ground,
   firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
   What heights of love, what depths of peace,
   when fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
   My comforter, my all in all,
   here in the love of Christ I stand.

   Once in the ground his body lay,
   light of the world by darkness slain:
   Then bursting forth in glorious day
   up from the grave he rose again!
   And as he stands in victory,
   sin's curse has lost its grip on me,
   for I am his and he is mine -
   bought with the precious blood of Christ.

   No guilt in life, no fear in death,
   this is the power of Christ in me;
   from life's first cry to final breath,
   Jesus commands my destiny.
   No power of hell, no scheme of man,
   can ever pluck me from his hand;
   till he returns or calls me home,
   here in the power of Christ I'll stand!

A  reflection on CHRIST THE KING,

a PRAYER AND BLESSING

HYMN

Christ triumphant, ever reigning,
Saviour, Master, King!
Lord of heaven, our lives sustaining,
hear us as we sing:
Yours the glory and the crown,
the high renown, the eternal name.

Suffering servant, scorned, ill - treated,
victim crucified!
death is through the cross defeated,
sinners justified:
Yours the glory and the crown,
the high renown, the eternal name.

Priestly king enthroned for ever,
High in heaven above

Sin and death and hell shall never
Stifle hymns of love
Yours the glory and the crown,
the high renown, the eternal name.

So, our hearts and voices raising
through the ages long,
ceaselessly upon you gazing,
this shall be our song:
Yours the glory and the crown,
the high renown, the eternal name.
