Beautiful Christmas cushions for sale

We have been donated 6 beautiful quilted Christmas cushions by the talented Lesley Barnett to raise funds for the St. Mary’s 600 Appeal.

They will make lovely gifts that will become heirlooms that can be brought out year after year. They are complete with cushion pads and excellent value at £20 each because hours of work have gone into creating them.

Please contact Sue Dennis if you would like to support our fundraising by buying one of them.

Bible Study sessions continue into Advent when we will explore four of the great Advent hymns – O "Come, O Come, Emmanuel", "Hark! The Glad Sound", "Hills of the North" and "Lo, He Comes".

There will be input again on the website followed by a discussion group via Zoom at 7.30 pm on Thursday 3rd, 10th, 17th and finishing on Tuesday 22nd December.

The Reverend Michelle Dalliston, Interim Vicar of Higham Ferrers and Chelveston says the new website is intended to reflect the growing number of online activities and changed circumstances brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“It is important that everyone in our community and beyond is able to find information and online events quickly and easily. I am enormously grateful to the group of volunteers who have worked on this wonderful transformation. Since the second lockdown began our churches have seen a significant increase in the number of people listening to and sharing the online services. A full explanation and order of service is always available so worshippers can share in the hymns, prayers and readings which are easy to find on the new site. Through our online presence we are able to be together in prayer, worship and care for one another.”

Another innovation on the new website is the Virtual Angels Festival which had been planned to help launch a major ‘St Mary’s 600 Appeal’ and would normally attract many hundreds of visitors to St Mary’s but cannot take place because of Covid restrictions. An online treasury of previous festivals has been produced to give a taster of what will be on offer in 2021. There is, of course, also the facility to pay small admission “fee” and donate to the Appeal which seeks to raise £600,000 for restoration and redevelopment of the church and Bede House.

The new website is being formally launched this weekend (28/29th November) and we invite online visitors to take a look and discover these churches where life has not stopped during difficult months.

Follow the Star! Advent Windows

Fill your window with Stars, Lights and Decorations all the way through December as we get ready in Advent for the birth of Jesus. The story unfolds as we head towards Christmas and share the journey of Mary & Joseph and the donkey, the shepherds and the three kings as they all make their way to Bethlehem.

Join in this year by placing a ‘Follow the Star!’ Star in your window and see how many Stars you can find in windows around you.
